How to Style a Royal Ascot Outfit with The Turquoise Flamingo

06 June 2022

As well as being one of the most exciting sporting events of the summer, Royal Ascot is a celebration of style and a much-anticipated excuse to get dressed up.  We caught up with stylist Sammy Duder, AKA The Turquoise Flamingo, to find out what she’s planning to wear to this year’s event, including her pick from our Royal Ascot collection. Discover how Sammy puts together a look that expresses her style while staying within the Royal Ascot dress code.

Not going to the races this year? Read on for style tips that apply to every joyful event this season.

What do you love about attending Royal Ascot?

“I love the tradition of the day. For me it’s a fabulous day out with great friends. It’s a good excuse to dress up, wear a hat and enjoy everyone’s amazing outfits. People really go to town and it’s so lovely to see the effort everyone makes.”

Can you talk us thorough your outfit choice?

“I’ve gone for a simple white broderie dress to let the bag do the talking. It’s perfect because the dress length and sleeves are well within regulation for Royal Ascot. It’s cotton, perfect for all weather conditions (I always consider this), and I love the simplicity of the dress with the pop of vibrant colour from the bag. I’ve got two hat options to choose from - a blue butterfly hat my great friend made me years ago, and a grander floral number which tends to go with most of my Ascot outfits.”

What do you love about the Cranwell Close bag you’ve chosen?

“The colour. I adore this Mango shade of Cranwell Close as it adds vibrancy to any outfit. It’s super soft and the perfect size to carry around any essentials for the day. I love the handle too, the bow tie detail adds such a nice touch. It’s the kind of bag that completes any outfit.”

What essentials will be in your bag on the day?

“Plasters, mints, wallet, perfume, safety pins, lip gloss, and a race card. Oh, and a small bag of Haribo.”

What’s your advice for standing out from the crowd?

“Go bold with colour and be brave. Whether it’s your bag, hat, dress or all three. Wear what you love. For me, Royal Ascot is a day to make a statement and really go for it. But also make sure you’re comfortable.”

What’s your top tip for staying comfortable all day?

“We generally picnic in the car park so I always take a pair of flat shoes for the end of the day and a warm chunky cardi for when it gets cooler. Don’t be tempted by shoes that aren’t comfortable.”

How would you adapt this look to wear again for other summer events?

“Easily! I’d just wear the same thing with flip flops or flat sandals. Add a cargo jacket or denim jacket and you’re good to go. I’m already thinking how lovely this bag would look with a pink dress over the summer.”

Thanks Sammy, we love your style.
